As a general rule, our children do not participate in the fundraisers from the school. We do not want anyone to ever feel obligated to buy from our kids - especially in the position we are in as Pastor family. However, this past week, Kendra brought home a fund raiser that we feel is a worthy effort - AND Kendra will benefit as well. They are doing a Math-a-thon in which the money Kendra can raise by doing math problems will be donated to St. Jude's hospital. http://www.mathathon.org/index.shtml
The St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the largest childhood cancer research center in the world in terms of patients enrolled in research protocols and successfully treated. Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and more than 70 countries. St. Jude sees about 230 patients, on average, each day. No family ever pays St. Jude for medical treatments.
So, Kendra will have approx. 200 math problems to solve. So far she has 5.00 pledged if she can do all 200 problems in the 7 days she is allotted. She is still gathering pledges and is so excited. Ok, so I am excited to.
I pray that none of my children will ever have cancer but it makes me feel good that we are doing what we can to help another family.
If anyone is interested in pledging money toward her effort you can call us or email us! Thanks!

The Silver Lining
There is a saying that goes like this... "Every cloud has a silver lining". For us, our friendship with Wade & Dianne and Rich & Danielle (and their families) has been a perfect example of this. April 4, 2009 will forever be etched in our memory as one of - if not- the worst day of our lives. However, out of the awfulness of that day, we have found wonderful friends in Officer Wade Sarver and his family and Officer Rich Houck and his family. These 2 men are some of Pittsburgh's finest officers and we are proud of their service. Wade was "there" on April 4 and we appreciate his service and actions that day.
Today our 3 families got together for the holidays and had a fantastic time. Thanks Sarvers and Houcks for your friendship!!
(Somehow the camera must have gotten put away after the Houcks showed up cause I don't have any pics of them and their kids playing.)
