Great Political Advice from a Political Great

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.
--Thomas Jefferson

During this election year let's be reminded of these words:

* You cannot help the poor, by destroying the rich.

* You cannot strengthen the weak, by weakening the strong.

* You cannot bring about prosperity, by discouraging thrift.

* You cannot lift the wage earner up, by pulling the wage payer down.

* You cannot further the brotherhood of man, by inciting class hatred.

* You cannot build character and courage, by taking away men's initiative and independence.

* You cannot help men permanently, by doing for them what they could and should, do for themselves.

All the above were by Abraham Lincoln

Very, very wise words, written years ago and we still don't get it.....

I agree with this. Today I received an email with those points and 3 more which I pasted below. It was called The 10 Cannots, and attributed to William J. H. Boetcker (1893-1962) published originally in 1916. Still good advice!

2. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.

6. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.

8. You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
